Continental Showcase
For those of you that didn't hear the announcement this Saturday (like me--I was at a wedding), Herb and Edna Wittka retired from the airwaves Saturday. Continental Showcase will remain on the air.

Miss Wisconsin

Miss Wisconsin 2004, Molly McGrath, to appear on October 2, 2004 Stimmung Stunde

Molly McGrath, Miss Wisconsin 2004
I'm walking on air, because we have Miss Wisconsin 2004, the lovely and talented Molly McGrath, coming on the Stimmung Stunde on October 2, 2004.

Miss McGrath is a UW-Madison Graduate in Journalism and Mass Communications. That means she's probably better at this radio broadcasting thing than me; which isn't all that tough, come to think of it. Her background in Political Science particularly lends itself to her platform in urging every American citizen to go out and vote.

Miss McGrath won Miss Wisconsin this June in Madison and her future goal is a doctorate in constitutional law and human rights. The big trick for me on this interview is going to be keeping up with this busy, intelligent role model.

Russian Fest

Just got back from Russian Fest, held at Heidelberg Park. It was heavily attended and was a lot of fun. Multiple vendors there with all sorts of different services and items.

Their cultural exhibit focused on architecture and traditional costumes.

I was surprised how many people were speaking only Russian to each other. I know that sounds stupid, but hear me out. I'm used to going to German events where MOST people greet each other in English, because they are used to living in this country now. With most of the participants here being newer immigrants, it's a different story.

They really made marvelous use of the grounds. The back aisleway had vendors lined up against it and they maximized the usefulness of the kids area with additional 'inflatable' playground equipment. They also had a chess tournment going (I challenged some of them to a stirring game of Yahtzee, but I think they were afraid of me) and a sand volleyball game. That's not counting the soccer game--but I never count that. (Though I am slowly learning to appreciate some of the soccer clubs in town.)

Anyway, that's my report. I'm definitely going next year. Younger crowd than most and lots of fun. As soon as you figure out what they have up on that menu.

Oh, but avoid the Russian soda. Trust me. Ew.
