JS Online: WLTQ-FM changed on its own, honest
If you look hard enough, near the bottom of this column, the WJYI ethnic radio shows are mentioned. I was a tad disappointed with this coverage and responded to Mr. Cuprisin with this e-mail (I reprint it here so that the errors in the column can be corrected. I'm not too confident a retraction or correction will hit the papers any time soon):
Tim,
I must admit I'm a little disappointed in today's column which mentions the move of my program and half a dozen other ethnic programs. When you had sent me an e-mail that you intended to cover the story, I did expect the story to be covered a little better. I understand the flip on LTQ effects far more listeners, but after two days of "Rather" coverage, I did expect a local story like this to not be fill in on another column. Your column should be filling the niche of news that isn't already overexposed in other media--I really feel you dropped the ball a little here.
First of all, there is the error in times. Continental Showcase starts at 1:00 p.m., not 12 noon as stated. I'm sure it is an oversight, but Herb Wittka's retirement from that program has also not been mentioned yet. After 49 years of broadcasting, he deserved better. Frankly, I suspect he is the longest running radio announcer we've had in this market and it's sort of embarrassing that it hasn't made the column at all yet.
Secondly, Bethany Lutheran, the last German church service program in the state also moved over and was not listed. Again, I'm sure it is an oversight, but it does have a rather loyal audience that should be better served.
What surprises me most about this column is that usually publishing can fill niches and specialty information that mass media generally can not due to the costs of production. In this case, mass media is covering this particular niche of the community far more effectively than publishing in this town. A sad time indeed that such audiences and readership is so poorly served.
I don't wish to upset you because in the past you've done an adequate job with coverage of my program. We've worked hard to get community guests, like our upcoming Miss Wisconsin interview, to broaden our listenership and you've been nice enough to give us a mention from time to time. I just feel you might have missed it this time. I hope that Milwaukee radio can be covered a little more and national a little less. We need the coverage...and honestly, that's what a local TV & Radio column really should be covering.
Respectfully,
Tim Kretschmann

'The Brew' debuts at 97.3 FM - 2004-09-20 - The Business Journal of Milwaukee
Here's an article on the recent changes at 97.3 FM. Unfortunately, they aren't going with that German Schlager format we were all hoping for. (I'm being sarcastic, folks.)

Our ethnic shows weren't the only one affected by the format change at WEMP. We're glad to hear that other shows are finding new homes as well.

You have probably heard by now that WEMP, our home for the past few years, is changing format. It is true. However, we have no clue as to what will happen with the show. We will inform you as soon as we know something.
